JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team suffered a tough loss in overtime to Hunter College by a score of 86-85 on Tuesday night.
Josh Perez led the Cardinals with a triple-double. He had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in the loss. It was the first triple-double for a Cardinal since 2011.
Edwin Sainvil added 26
points, while
Jean Joseph netted 19 points for the Cardinals.
Amer Lukac led the Hawks with 20 points, while Mamadou Sakho and Danny Fusco each added 18 points in the victory.
The Cardinals held the lead for the entire first half and went into halftime up by six points. Throughout the second half, both teams went back and forth, having five tied scores and three lead changes.
Sainvil scored the last five points in regulation for the Cardinals. With 44 seconds left in regulation, the Cardinals found themselves trailing by five points. Sainvil hit two free throws to
bring them within three points of the Hawks. Then with 22 seconds left in regulation, Sainvil hit a big three for the Cardinals to tie the game at 78 and send the game into overtime.
In overtime,
Larry Moore made a layup off the assist from Perez with five seconds left to tie the game again. But on the next trip down the floor, a foul put Danny Fusco on the free throw line with just one second left. Fusco hit the first free throw, giving the Hawks the one-point victory in overtime.
After tonight's game, the York Cardinals drop to 2-19, 2-11 CUNYAC on the season, while the Hunter Hawks improve to 8-13, 6-6 CUNYAC. Up next for the Cardinals will be a home game on Friday at 8 p.m. against The City College of New York.
