Men’s Volleyball Suffers Season-Opening Loss to St. Joseph’s

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team fell in its season-opener to St. Joseph's (Long Island) 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-16) at home on Thursday night.

A young Cardinals team had some first-game jitters, as they hit -.081 as a team.  Junior Akeem George and freshman Burrel Kirk Murray led York with four kills apiece.  Larry Moore added three kills, while Paramvir Singh recorded seven digs.

St. Joseph's (2-0) was led by Matthew Amberge, who had a match-high eight kills, and by Will Flohr, who had six.

In the first two sets, York found itself in an early deficit and could not recover. The final set was more competitive, but with York trailing 10-7, St. Joseph's scored five of the next six points to go up by 14-8. St. Joe's was not threatened the rest of the way.

York (0-1) returns to action on February 1st, with a tri-match at Lancaster Bible College.
