NEW YORK, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team found itself in an early deficit to Baruch College and could never recover, losing to the Bearcats by a score of 68-56 on Wednesday night.
With the score tied at 7-7, Baruch went on a 16-2 run to go up 23-9 just nine minutes into the game. The two teams played even the rest of the way, but York could never climb out of the early hole.
Three-point shooting would prove to be the difference in this one, as Baruch was 7-of-17 from long range (41.2 %), including two during the early first-half run. Meanwhile, York had a dismal night from beyond the arc, connecting on just 3 of 17 shots (17.6%).
York had three players score in double figures, led by
Josh Perez with 15.
Ryan Smart had his ninth double-double of the year, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 boards and
Edwin Sainvil scored 11 points.
Baruch's Chimaechi Ekekeugbor led all players with 22 points, to go along with 11 rebounds. Bryler Paige scored 10 points.
York is now 1-15, 1-8 CUNYAC, while Baruch is 13-4, 7-2 CUNYAC. The Cardinals host Medgar Evers College on Friday at 8 p.m.
