Cardinals Fall in Four Sets to the College of Staten Island

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The York College women's volleyball team fell to the College of Staten Island in a conference matchup Tuesday night, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13).

In the first set, the College of Staten Island (3-6, 2-2 CUNYAC) used strong serving to pull out to a 12-3 lead. After a lopsided start to the set, the Cardinals fought their way back with five straight points to come within six and later would tie the game 23-23. But Staten Island closed the set with two straight points.

The second set saw York take a commanding 13-5 lead, but Staten Island fought their way back and tied the set 20-20. The Cardinals hung on to close out the set and senior Shauncia McClendon won the final point with a block.

However, York couldn't complete the comeback as they dropped the third set, 25-18 and fourth set, 25-13.

McClendon led the team in digs with 13 and had seven aces. Tiandra Jones had nine kills and Chayana Jimenez totaled 12 digs.
