NEW YORK, N.Y.—The York College women's volleyball team struggled to stop John Jay College on Thursday, as the Bloodhounds defeated the Cardinals 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-16).
The Bloodhounds hit .321 as a team—the second highest total against York College this season and recorded 27 kills, compared to just eight total kills for the Cardinals.
John Jay's Rachel Eng put up a big performance, totaling a match-high 11 kills, while hitting .500. Katrina Zapanta served up seven of John Jay's 24 aces against the Cardinals.
John Jay was never really threatened in the match, other than early on the first and third sets, when the two teams kept it close. However, the Bloodhounds pulled away midway through those sets. In the second set, the Bloodhounds jumped out to a big lead and never looked back.
York's
Shauncia McClendon led the way in a losing effort with three aces and fives digs.
The Cardinals fall to 2-10, 1-3 CUNYAC, while John Jay improves to 5-4, 3-1 CUNYAC. York returns home on Tuesday against the College of Staten Island at 7 p.m.
