Surf Tallies Four Goals in York’s Rout of Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, NY— York College freshman Monique Surf scored four goals and assisted on another as the Cardinals women's soccer team cruised to an 11-0 victory over Medgar Evers College on Wednesday evening.

York (2-2, 1-0 CUNYAC) scored early and often and led by nine goals at the half.  Sophomore Antonella Campos opened the scoring in just the second minute of action on a pass from Surf.  Surf then added her first goal in the 12th minute after stealing the ball in the goalie box.  Campos followed again with her second goal of the match in the 17th minute, making it 3-0.

After 15 minutes of scoreless action, senior Estefany Delgado made it 4-0 following a pass from Michelle Rodriguez.  Then just three minutes later, Surf added her second goal of the game, with Delgado assisting this time around.  Surf then got the hat trick in the 38th minute following a nice pass from Andrea Castillo, which led to an easy breakaway.

The last three goals of the half came in a flurry. Kennisha Wills scored unassisted in the 42nd minute and then Surf scored her fourth and final goal of the match off a pass from Dayana Moscoso in the 43rd minute.  Finally, Fanny Salazar scored her first York goal unassisted in the 45th minute.

The Cardinals then eased off the gas in the second half, scoring two more goals. Michelle Rodriguez scored off an assist from Wills in the 46th minute and finally Delgado scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 52nd minute.

After the impressive effort tonight, York will set it sights on Brooklyn College on Saturday in an important early-season CUNYAC match-up.  The match kicks off at 12 p.m.
