The York College softball team could not get their bats going in their doubleheader against The College of Staten Island on Saturday. They were only able to muster two hits on the day, losing 9-0 in the first game and 17-0 game two.
In game one, senior
Priscilla Lallave got the first hit of the day for York with a single in the first inning, but was stranded at first as the Cardinals went down quietly. On the mound, Lallave kept the game close for the first three innings, only giving up three runs. However, the Dolphins exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Junior
Conetia Anderson got a single in the fifth, but was doubled off first on the next play to end the game.
In game two, York could not get anything going offensively as they were no-hit by Staten Island pitcher Nicolette Trapani. Only a walk by freshman
Nicole Ovelheira in the second inning kept it from being a perfect game. The Dolphins scored in every inning, scoring one in the first, eight in the second, seven in the third, and one in the fourth.
One positive to take away from the day is the Cardinals defense.
York is now 2-20, 1-11 CUNYAC, while Staten Island improves to 19-9, 9-1 CUNYAC. The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, hosting The College of New Rochelle in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. It will be York's fifth and sixth game in four days.
