York Softball Drops Both Games vs. Hunter

BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon by scores of 8-2 and 15-1 respectively.

In the first game, Cardinal pitcher Priscilla Lallave threw the best game of the season for any pitcher by York this season. She went the full seven innings, allowing only two earned runs, giving up eight hits, and striking out four. She did not get much help from her defense however, as the Cardinals committed eight errors in the game.

The York bats started off hot in the first inning, beginning with Alyssa King, who had a leadoff single. She stole second and then a perfect sacrifice bunt by Lallave moved her to third. Chyla Guevara drove her in with a fielder's choice as the shortstop's throw to the catcher was too late, giving York an early 1-0 lead.

Hunter came back to take the lead in the second with a couple of unearned runs. They added another run in the third and two more in the fourth because of more sloppy defense by the Cardinals.  York got a run back on hits by Lallave and shortstop Nicole Ovelheira in the sixth inning. Hunter put the finishing touches on in the seventh to seal the game.

In the second game, Danielle Zurek and Sara Beck dominated inside the circle for Hunter. York did not get a base runner until the 5th inning, when Nathy Reyes and Jailene Rojas drew back-to-back walks. Freshman Abigail Acosta followed by recording the only hit for York in the game and drove in Reyes for her first-career RBI.

York is back in action on Saturday, April 16, as they visit the Brooklyn Bulldogs for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
