JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team won both their matches Tuesday night. They beat Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-19) and defeated Purchase, 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 15-12), in a close match.
Medgar Evers RecapThe Cardinals started off slow in the first set trading points with Medgar Evers but eventually won the set, 25-16. The second set was more of the same early on as neither team seemed like they could pull away. However, at 15-15, York took control and went on a 10-0 run to win the second set, 25-15. The third set wasn't much different than the first two as both teams continued to go back and forth. The Cardinals finished strong once again and won the set, 25-19.
The Cardinals were led by
Akeem George, who had 11 kills.
Frederis Tapia and
Anson Webb weren't far behind, as Tapia had seven kills and Webb had six.
Jonathan Liao had a team-high 28 assists, and
Paramvir Singh led the way with eight digs.

Anson Webb all had a tremendous hitting percentage, with each of them going over .500.
Purchase RecapIn the second match of the night York got off to a hot start, taking a 7-3 lead and forcing Purchase to call an early timeout. Purchase came back to make it 10-10 and ended up taking the first set 25-18. The Cardinals started off strong once again in the second, leading 11-6. They never gave up the lead again and won the second set, 25-18.
The third set saw both teams trading points throughout, but York ultimately came out on top, winning 26-24 after a late rally. York was unable to keep momentum going, however, losing the fourth set, 20-25.
The final set was once again a battle but
Randy Adams propelled the Cardinals to victory, getting a kill and a block on the final two points to clinch the match.
York was led by Adams, who set a career high with 30 kills.
Jonathan Liao also had a career high with 50 assists and
Paramvir Singh added 14 digs. Riley Damerell led the way for Purchase with 20 kills.
York (11-16, 8-4 CUNYAC) is back in action Thursday at 7 p.m., hosting a conference match against John Jay College.
