JAMAICA, N.Y—The York College men's volleyball team fell in a pair of home matches on Saturday, losing to Albertus Magnus College, 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-21) and Lancaster Bible College 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-23).
Against Albertus Magnus, the Cardinals featured a balanced attack in the loss.
Frederis Tapia had a team-high nine kills and
Larry Moore had eight.
Akeem George and
John Lingad each finished with seven kills. Setter
Jonathan Liao recorded 28 assists, while Manprit Singh had 12 digs.
The numbers weren't as good for the Lancaster match, with Moore and Tapia each finishing with a team-high three kills.
Against Albertus Magnus, York dropped a close first set, lost badly in the second and looked like it might get swept. However, they rallied in the third, scoring four of the final five points to take the set. Tapia came up big in the stretch with a pair of kills. In the fourth, York trailed just 22-21, but two straight York errors and then an AMC kill finished off the match.
In the match vs. Lancaster Bible, York was overmatched in the first two sets, but regrouped to make it a game in the third. The Cardinals seemed poised to force a fourth set after leading 22-18, but Lancaster rallied late to earn the sweep.
York now falls to 5-10 on the season. They will visit the College of Staten Island on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
