BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Behind strong play from
Randy Adams and
Larry Moore, the York College men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) win over CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College on Thursday night.
Adams filled up the stat sheet, recording a team-high seven kills with a .462 hitting percentage, while adding four aces, and five digs. Moore continued his efficient play, registering eight kills in just nine attempts (.889). Over his last three matches, Moore has totaled 19 kills in just 31 attempts.
Frederis Tapia and
Akeem George each chipped in four kills and
Jonathan Liao had 18 assists and four aces.
The Cardinals and Bulldogs battled it out in the first set, going back and forth, until three straight points by York broke a 21-21 tie. Back-to-back kills by Adams and Moore and then a block by Moore helped set up the first-set victory.
In the second set, York got some separation early, taking a 6-3 advantage and extending the lead to 11-5 thanks in part to a block and an ace from
Anson Webb. From there, they held their comfortable lead to take a 2-0 advantage in sets.
The third set was tight in the early going until the Cardinals rolled off four straight point to turn a 14-11 lead to 18-11. York cruised to the win from there.
It was an important win in the conference for York. They improved to 5-8, 3-4 CUNYAC, while dropping Brooklyn to 5-10, 2-4 CUNYAC. The win catapulted them from seventh place into fourth place in the standings.
Next up for York, they return home after a long stretch of road matches. This Saturday, they host Albertus Magnus College at 1 p.m. and Lancaster Bible College at 3 p.m.
