JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College men's basketball team was done in by an early run by the College of Staten Island and fell to the Dolphins by a score of 84-50.
Things started off innocent enough, with the two teams tied at 9-9 following a
Larry Moore lay-up with 13:16 to go in the half. However, moments later, York followed with a five-minute scoring drought, and the Dolphins took advantage, going on a 22-2 run to take a 31-11 lead. CSI's Robert Rossiter led the way with seven points during the stretch. York settled down a bit from there, but the Dolphins would go into the locker room with a 45-23 advantage.
Staten Island continued to extend is advantage in the second half, extending the lead to 30 points (62-32) with 12 minutes to play, squashing any hope of a York second-half comeback.
Rossiter had a game-high 24 points to lead the Dolphins, while Khaleeq Baum added 15. Frank Schettino dished out seven assists.
Brett Walker led York with 11 points, while
Ryan Smart chipped in 10 points and nine boards. Moore recorded six points and 12 rebounds.
York is now 0-6, 0-2 CUNYAC and the College of Staten Island is 3-4, 2-0 CUNYAC. York will be on the road for its next game on Tuesday at Medgar Evers College. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
