JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York College men's basketball team returned to action after a two-week break and struggled to slow down Hamilton College, losing at home by a score of 101-61.
Hamilton was lights out from three-point range, connecting on 13 three pointers en route to the victory. Peter Hoffman led the Continentals with a game-high 20 points, while making all three of his shots from long distance. Michael Grassey scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
York was led by
Ryan Smart who had a double-double (18 points, 13 rebounds) to go along with six steals.
Sasha Clarida had 11 points and
Akeem George grabbed ten rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
The Cardinals could not match Hamilton's shooting proficiency, as York made just 2-of-18 shots from three-point range, while shooting a dismal 28 percent from the field.
The game was competitive early on with the Cardinals taking an 11-10 lead following a dunk and made jumper from
Ryan Smart. That lead would prove to be short lived, as Hamilton responded with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to go up 22-13. The Continentals continued to extend the lead and went into the locker room up by 25 (54-29) after a three-pointer by Matt Moros just before halftime.
In the second half, Hamilton led by as many as 41, eclipsing triple digits in the final minute of play.
Hamilton improves to 7-2 on the season, while York drops to 0-10. The Cardinals host Lehman College on January 4 at 8:00 p.m.
