BUFFALO, N.Y.– The York College men's basketball team dropped the consolation game of the Buffalo State Coles Classic to the University of Maine-Ft. Kent, 97-64, on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals kept it close in the first half as they headed to the locker room down 49-39. UMFK was able to secure the win with a very strong second half, outscoring York by 23 points. The Bengals were able to shoot an even 50% from the field on the night, as the Cardinals defense was not able to contain the high-pressured offense. York also had trouble holding onto the ball, as they turned the ball over 20 times. UMFK took advantage scoring 26 points off turnovers.
York was led by
Ryan Smart who had a double-double in the contest with 15 points and 13 rebounds in 28 minutes of action and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Ryan St. John played a game-high 29 minutes, scoring 15 points and contributing two assists.
Paramvir Singh had eight points off the bench and was perfect behind the arc, going 2-for-2.
The Bengals offense was in rhythm Saturday evening, as four players scored double digits. Fred Sanchez and Will White both scored a game-high 18 points. Roosevelt Smith, Jr. had 10 rebounds and 12 assists for a double-double of his own. The win pushes UMFK to 4-2 on the young season.
York's record dropped to 0-3 as they continue to search for win number one under first-year head coach
Nolan Adams. They will be back in action Tuesday night on the road against Purchase College at 6 pm.
