FROSTBURG, M.D. – The York College Cardinals dropped the first game of the Frostburg State Tournament Friday evening against Frostburg State (1-1) by a score of 84-29.
The Cardinals would fall behind early in the first quarter, allowing the Bobcats to begin the game on a 10-0 run. York would then get their offense started, as
Mayan Charles sunk a layup in the paint.
Evanda Redwood would then net a successful jumper to cut the deficit to 13-4. After getting on the board however, York allowed Frostburg to go on a big run for the rest of the half, finishing the second quarter down 49-9.
After a tough third quarter, the Cardinals would pull a bit closer to the Bobcats in the fourth. York would score 13 points, led by 11 free throw points and drew even with Frostburg in the quarter.
For the game,
Evanda Redwood would lead the Cardinals in points with 10,while Sharyce Warren led Frostburg with 15. The Cardinals would also tally 39 rebounds in the effort, again led by Redwood with eight. Despite the loss, the Cardinals shot a strong 70.4 percent from the free throw line.
With the loss, York falls to 0-2 on the young season with still plenty to look forward to. The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, November 19, as they will play in the consolation game against either Rutgers-Camden or the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
