JAMAICA, N.Y. – Fall competition continues for the York College Cardinals this weekend with scheduled action from the men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball, and men's soccer.

Starting on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. At the Nat Holman Gym at CCNY, the women's volleyball team will play their first of two CUNYAC matches against Hunter College.  Hunter has proven to be a difficult opponent for the Cardinals in the past, however Hunter women's volleyball has had a challenging start to their season with losses in their first two matches.  Both teams enter play Saturday searching for their first win.  At 3:00 p.m. the Cardinals face off against Medgar Evers College.  In the past several seasons York women's volleyball has consistently recorded wins against the Medgar Evers Cougars.  Currently the Cardinals record stands at 0-3 but this weekend's match up's provides them with an opportunity to move their record closer to. 500.

Action continues with York College Men's Soccer at 2:00 p.m. against Bard College on the shores of the picturesque Hudson River.  This will be a new challenge for York College as the men have not faced the Bard Raptors in recent seasons. The Raptors have gotten off to a fiery start with two decisive wins against SUNY Cobbleskill and Southern Vermont College.  Their momentum has been halted slightly with a double overtime draw against Mount Saint Mary's in their most recent match last Wednesday. The Cardinals are seeking their first win after three hard-fought matches.  Offense has come from many different places this season for the Cardinals with goals from Albert Lucas, Ricardo Bentley, and Oscar Rojas.  The match Saturday presents an opportunity for a break-out win against Bard.  Live stats and video will be available at www.yorkathletics.com/coverage.

Both men's and women's cross-country will take to the trails at 10:00 a.m. Sunday at Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island.  Weather is predicted to be seasonable with ideal temperatures for competition in the 70s.  The men and women recorded solid results all around last weekend in their first meet of the season with 5th, and 8th place respectively. Jesus Medina led the York men with a 31st place finish.   York College Freshman Elliot Rogers had a notable performance in his first appearance, with a time of 36:09, placing him 34th amongst 75 competitors. The women also faired well and were led by two freshman, Elis Urena and Camila Philbert, placing 35th and 36th out of 86 runners.  Both teams hope to continue their momentum at the College of Staten Island Invitational this Sunday.
