NEW YORK, N.Y. — York College senior
Edner Geffrard and sophomore
Randy Adams each had big performances to lead the Cardinals men's volleyball team to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-13, 26-24) win at the City College of New York on Thursday night.
Geffrard slammed down 13 kills, including the final two to finish off the match, while adding eight digs and three blocks. Adams finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs, while also serving up five aces.
Adams has really stepped up his service game of late, recording 13 aces over his last three matches, which moves him up to eighth in the nation in aces per set (0.74). After a sluggish start for Geffrard, he has also upped his game of late, averaging 3.3 kills per set over his last three matches.
The Cardinals got off to a sloppy start in this one, as several hitting errors in the early going put them in a 7-2 hole in the first set. York made a late rally to make it close, but fell 25-22. They committed 12 errors in the set.
From there, York picked up its play, committing just five hitting errors over the next two sets, while hitting .250 and .385 in the second and third sets respectively. They also held CCNY to negative hitting percentages each time.
The fourth set was a battle throughout. With the score knotted up at 24-24, Geffrard put the match away with kills on consecutive plays, giving the Cardinals a 26-24 win to clinch the match.
Also contributing for York was
Sebastien Francois, who had nine kills and three aces and setter Androw Solimon, who finished with a career-high 29 assists.
Anson Webb added five kills and three blocks, while libero
Paramvir Singh totaled a career-high 16 digs.
York is now 10-13 overall and 9-2 in CUNYAC play and has put together four straight wins. CCNY drops to 4-15, 2-8 CUNYAC.
