BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The York College men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23) victory on the road against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), picking up its first win of the 2015 season in the process on Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Randy Adams led York (1-6) with nine kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while adding five service aces. Senior
Edner Geffrard tallied a match-high 11 kills and a team-high five digs and freshman
Anson Webb had the best match of his young career, recording ten kills, two aces and three digs. Freshman setter
Andrew Hass finished with career-high 27 assists.
York jumped to a 2-0 set advantage in dominating fashion. They held St. Joe's to a negative hitting percentage in both sets. In the third, St. Joseph's made adjustments and picked up its play, edging out York, 25-21 to force a fourth set. With a 22-21 advantage, the Bears closed the set with a pair of kills and then an ace.
In the fourth set, York had to work hard to finish off the match. The score was tied at 21-21, when consecutive kills by Geffrard and
Akeem George put them ahead by two. After a York error, Geffrard slammed down another kill to give York match point. Another York error made it 24-23, but Geffrard came through one last time, with yet another kill to clinch the win.
St. Joseph's (1-1) was led by Thomas Kenney and Taso Kostikas, who each finished with eight kills apiece.
York will have a quick turnaround, as they visit the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
