ARLINGTON VA. –– Playing without a couple of their key players, York College (5-11) lost in straight sets to Marymount University (5-9), (25-14, 25-10, 25-19) and (25-14, 25-11, 25-11).
In the first match,
Sebastien Francois had seven of the 21 kills for the Cardinals and chipped in with four digs.
Anson Webb also contributed with five kills in a losing effort.
In the third and final set of the first match, trailing 18-12, the Cardinals were able to rally for six straight points and seven of the last eight to tie it up at 19-19. Aces by
Andrew Hass and
Sebastien Francois, as well as four Marymount attack errors, brought the Cardinals back.
But Marymount was able to take control and rally for the last six points to take the set and match. Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz led the Saints with 11 kills (.318) and seven digs, while Graham Clark and Connor Choate had five kills apiece.
It was déjà vu in the second match. Led by Ksiazkiewicz six kills (.625) and seven blocks, it was a balanced attack for the Saints across the board. Erich Bratke contributed with five kills and Carson Caudell added four kills.
Edner Geffrard had six kills for the Cardinals and Webb chipped in with four kills.
The Cardinals, who are currently tied for third place in the CUNYAC, host No. 2 Kean University at home on Wednesday at 7 pm.
