JAMAICA, N.Y. — Sophomore men's volleyball player
Randy Adams recorded a match-high 16 kills, but his effort would not be enough as the York College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to CUNYAC-foe Hunter College on Thursday night by a score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-20).
It was an anticipated early-season match-up as both York and Hunter have become rivals in recent history, with York eliminating Hunter in five-sets in the last two CUNYAC semi-finals. However, the Hawks earned a bit of revenge tonight with a dominant victory. Hunter (9-7, 6-0 CUNYAC) hit .195 as a team, while holding York to just a .013 hitting percentage. York also had trouble returning the Hawks serve, as they allowed 10 aces.
Individually, Hunter had an extremely balanced attack with three players recording six kills apiece. Ben Crusinberry led the Hawks with six kills and five aces.
In addition to Adams' contributions, York (5-9, 4-2 CUNYAC) also got ten digs from
Androw Soliman and three blocks from
Anson Webb.
Edner Geffrard chipped in five kills and four digs.
York will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Marymount University (Virginia) for a pair of matches. York will take on Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m. and Marymount at 3 p.m.
