York Defeated by Conference Rival Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. – The York men's basketball faced off against conference rival, Lehman College, on Tuesday night.  Despite a strong effort from the Cardinals, the final score was 81-65 in favor of Lehman.

York was battling through the first ten minutes of the game and was only down four points. However, Lehman caught fire, going on a 21-8 run to finish the half. The run was sparked by Andrew Utate, who had nine points and two steals in the final four minutes of the half.

Ryan Smart came out strong for the Cardinals going 4-of-6 from the floor in the first half, scoring eight points and collecting two steals and one block. Chuan Miller and Utate both totaled 13 points in the first half for Lehman.

The Lightning continued their offensive attack in the second half. Within two minutes, Lehman was up by 20 points after an and-one by Olusegun Williams. Despite the large lead, York fought back and got it within 11 after a three-point play from Ryan St. John with nine minutes to go. However, the deficit was too much to handle and the Cardinals could not make a comeback.

Miller was once again a factor; especially from outside, the three-point line where he shot 4-of-7 on the night and came away with 20 points and 15 rebounds in his 39 minutes of play.  Smart was the leading scorer for York, with 19 on the night.  Smart's aggressive play in the paint has been a contributing factor for the Cardinals all year.  Rashaan Bailey scored 14 points an added four assists, two steals, and one block.

The loss leaves York at 2-7, 0-3 CUNYAC, and brings Lehman's record to 6-2, 3-0 CUNYAC.  The York men's basketball squad will have an opportunity to regroup Friday on the road against Baruch College at 7:30 p.m.
