JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team had little trouble disposing of Medgar Evers College at home on Wednesday, defeating the Cougars by a score of 66-33.
York (5-11, 3-6 CUNYAC) got a game-high 15 points from
Nia Rene—who also contributed seven rebounds and two steals and shot 70 percent from the field.
Tamika Taylor posted a line of 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, while
Angelika Ruggiano recorded 11 points and six assists.
Samantha Bond also had a nice night with 10 points and four steals.
The Cardinals never trailed in this one, scoring the game's first 12 points and never looking back. York held the Cougars scoreless for more than eight minutes and continued that trend of stifling defense throughout the contest. Medgar Evers (1-16, 0-9 CUNYAC) made only 19 percent of its shots from the field, which is the lowest percentage that York has allowed this season.
The win helped York move into a tie for fifth-place in the CUNYAC standings—up two spots from seventh place. Up next for York is The City College of New York, who the Cardinals previously defeated earlier this season. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the York College Gymnasium.
