JAMAICA NY— The York College women's volleyball team won its third consecutive match after defeating Albertus Magnus 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 29-27) in a hard-fought match at home Monday night.
The match was evenly played, but the Cardinals were able to score during crucial moments of the night to earn the victory. Neither team could put points away throughout with both teams recording over 100 attempts, despite only playing three sets. The Cardinals were slightly more successful in that aspect though, as they hit .057 compared to -.076 for the Falcons.
After York won the first set easily, the second set was much tighter, with the two teams going back and forth. York held two set points at 24-22, but Albertus Magnus evened up the score, following a pair of Cardinal attack errors. But the Cardinals would take the set after a well-placed
Shauncia McClendon kill that landed just inside the end line gave York set point.
Allison Li then served up an ace to put York up 2-0.
In the final set, York climbed out of an early 12-7 deficit to tie the score at 16-16. But Albertus Magnus would take a 25-24 lead with a chance to force a fourth set. The Cardinals would not be denied though.
Renee Daley slammed down a kill on the ensuing point to tie the score again. The two teams then exchanged points until a
NaaDira Patrick kill gave York match point. Daley then finished off the match with an ace.
In the win, York (4-13) was led by senior
Stayce Kay Muirhead who finished a match-high 13 kills, with eight of those coming in the second set. Daley had one of the best matches of her young career, with seven kills and nine digs, while Patrick recorded six kills, two blocks and ten digs. Setter
