NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The York College women's volleyball team lost on the road against the College of New Rochelle in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-4) on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Angels opened up an early lead in the first set 9-5, but then increased their lead after a string of six straight points brought them to a commanding ten-point lead. The Cardinals never had the momentum to come back as they lost the set, 25-14.
It looked like New Rochelle was going to run away with the second set as well after taking a 9-3 lead, but the Cardinals never gave up as they went on a small role, thanks to two key kills from
NaaDira Patrick, to narrow the margin, 12-9. CNR increased the deficit back to six points, taking a 20-14 lead later on in the set. However a string of five straight Cardinal points made the match close yet again at 20-19. But that's as close as York came to taking the lead, as the Blue Angels scored five of the last six points in the set to win it an lead the Cardinals, 2-0.
The third set was dominated by New Rochelle, as they were able to win seven straight volleys at one point to take a commanding 12-2 lead. The score made it to 14-4, but the Blue Angels finished strong as they scored eleven straight points to bury York, including five service aces from Fabiola Padilla Rios.
Patrick led the Cardinals with five kills and
Allison Li collected 13 digs on the match. Padilla Rios led the Blue Angels to victory with a total of 14 kills and 6 aces.
The loss makes York's record fall to 4-21, while New Rochelle improves to 21-7 on the season.
York will look to move on from this match when they take on the College at Old Westbury at home on Tuesday, October 21
st, at 7:00pm.
