BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York College men's soccer team faced off against Berkeley College Tuesday night in a non-conference match. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Berkeley scored early and often, putting in six goals in the back of the net to give them a 6-2 win.
Led by Juan Faciolince, who finished with a hat trick on the night, the Berkeley Knights opened the scoring early, scoring within the first 30 seconds of the match, as Faciolince picked up a loose ball in the six that ricocheted off the post and buried it in the back of the net. Faciolince would find the back of the net again in the 12th minute, finishing off an assist from Kevin Ortiz.
Diron Duah came in as a sub for York, and would score the first goal of the night for the Cardinals in the 18th minute, off of a free kick that was mishandled by Berkeley keeper, Jonathan Pena-Ortiz.
Two minutes later, Berkeley would score again, with Kevin Ortiz finding the back of the net off of an assist from Pedro Dos Santos. Dos Santos would chip in with a goal of his own in the 31st minute to give Berkeley a 4-1 advantage at the half.
Jordan Chin would score for York in the 59th minute, after the Cardinals were rewarded a penalty kick, cutting the lead to two. Berkeley would respond in the 74th minute with Bryan Costa scoring, and again in the 80th minute with Juan Faciolince capping off his hat trick.
The Cardinals outshot Berkeley with 27 shots attempted on goal against the Knights' 16 shots, but still fell short of the victory.
York now falls to 4-11 overall. The Cardinals will be on the road this coming Saturday, taking on Medgar Evers College in a non-conference match. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. at the Old Boys Field.
