BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York College men's soccer team (5-11) scored nine goals on Saturday morning to beat Medgar Evers (4-9) on the road, 9-0.
All nine of the Cardinals' goals came in the first half, as York shot a total of 20 times in the half alone. The scoring started in the sixth minute of action, when a
Rachidi Amadou shot found the back of the net off of a quick pass from
Diron Duah. Just over ten minutes later, in the 17th minute, senior midfielder
Remi Molake took a pass from the top of the box from Duah and shot it passed the goalie for his first goal of the season.
Frank Rodriguez also scored his first goal of the season in this contest, as the senior forward found the net in the 32nd minute. Amadou collected the assist on this scoring play.
Amadou was the star of the match, as he scored three goals and collected three assists. The three assists increased his season total to four on the year, already surpassing his personal best of three in one season.
Molake and Rodriguez each had two goals while
Wilkerson C. Jean Jacques and
Wilmer Yunga each added a score of their own. Duah collected three assists, increasing his total to ten on the year, which leads the CUNYAC.
The Cougars managed to get just one shot off in the second half of action, which was saved by
Jordan Chin to preserve the shutout victory.
Unfortunately for York, the win does not count as a victory towards their conference record. York's first match-up against the Cougars counted as a CUNYAC match, while this match is recorded as a non-conference contest.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Monday night, October 20
th, as they face off against Montclair State University on the road at 7:00pm.
