Men’s and Women’s Swimming Fall to CSI
JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's and women's swimming teams fell to the College of Staten Island in a CUNY Athletic Conference meet held at York Thursday evening. The women lost by a score of 111-83 and the men were defeated 137-64. Despite the loss, the Cardinals did have some strong individual performances, winning four individual events and one relay.
On the men's side, Mostafa Elbasal was victorious in the 100-butterfly, besting three other competitors. For the women, Ayanna Bennett took home first place in the 50-freestyle, Jennifer Castillo was victorious in the 200-individual medley and Ayanna Bennett touched the wall first in the 100-backstroke. The relay team of Bennett, Mohamed, Castillo and Chrisviany Delarosa also won the 200-individual medley relay.
The loss drops the men's record to 1-5, 1-2 in the CUNYAC, while the women fall to 2-7, 0-4 in the CUNYAC. The York women will return to action on Monday when they host John Jay College at 6:00 p.m. The men will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Purchase College, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
