Women’s Swimming Splits, Men’s Swimming Loses Two in Tri-Meet

KINGS POINT, NY— The York College men's and women's swimming teams were in action Thursday evening to take on both the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and SUNY Old Westbury.  The women were able to salvage a split, defeating Old Westbury 59-33, while falling to USMMA 69-34.  The men's squad fell to both teams, losing 48-43 to Old Westbury and 75-25 to USMMA.

USMMA dominated the meet, taking first place in all but two events.  York did have a number of second place finishers however.  Jennifer Castillo came in second in both the 100-backstroke and 200-yard individual medley.  Beatrice Antoine touched the wall in second place in the 100-freestyle, Yajaira Saavedra was second in the 1000-freestyle and Paulana Lamonier was second in the 500-freestyle.  Averie Mohammed also finished tied for second in the 100-butterfly.  The women's record now stands at 3-10 with the split.

For the men, York received contributions from Timoteo Baltazar who placed second in the 200-IM.  The men now fall to 1-8 on the season.

Both teams will return to action on Tuesday when they host Purchase College at 6:00 p.m.
