Aisha Bruce enters her first season with the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs at York College in the role as interim assistant coach.

Bruce makes her move to the college level after last coaching Bronx Science High School from 2010-13, leading as head coach for the boys indoor track & field and girls outdoor track & field programs while also contributing to the success as the boys assistant outdoor coach.  In 2011, the boys indoor team placed third at the 2011 City Championships.  She coached the Wolverines’ boys indoor 4x800 relay team at the Millrose Games in 2011 and 2012.  From 2011-13, Bruce sent 10 of her athletes to the New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships, including four in 2011.

From 2004-07, Bruce served Freeport High School as the head women’s cross country and track coach.  Bruce guided the Red Devils to third place at the Nassau County Girls Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2006 and 2007.  In 2007, Bruce helped Freeport capture the Division 1A Girls Outdoor Track & Field championship.  While at Freeport, Bruce coached an athlete to place fifth in the girls triple jump at the Penn Relays and Nationals, while her indoor relay team qualified for the 2006 Millrose Games. 

Prior to making her coaching debut, Bruce volunteered at the Columbia University athletic training room from 2003-04 before working at Harlem YMCA/JRYC Youth Center from 2001-03 as a fitness specialist.

Hailing from Queens, Bruce attended Newtown High School, where she claimed the 1993 Queens Borough Indoor Championship in the triple jump event.  

No stranger to NCAA Division III, Bruce competed for two seasons (1994-95) as a member of the indoor and outdoor track & field team at SUNY Plattsburgh.  Bruce would go on to graduate from SUNY Buffalo with a bachelor’s degree in african american studies in 2002, and later received a master’s degree in physical education from Queens College in 2011.  

Since 2007, Bruce has worked as a games specialist at Camp Anchor, in which she creates weekly lesson plans as well as various sports and activities for children and adults of varying abilities.  

From 2009-10, Bruce taught physical education at Bronx Charter School for Children.  In 2009, Bruce was a first grade teacher at PS/IS 72.  As an educator, Bruce also served as a substitute teacher for the NYC Department of Education (2007-13), Lakeville Elementary School (2008), Queens High School of Teaching (2008).

Bruce currently resides in the Corona section of Queens.
