Kathleen DeRienzo joins York College in 2022-23 as assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach.
“I believe I can have a positive impact on York’s tennis program with my experience both as a former collegiate player and raising/coaching two Division I student-athletes (one of which played WTA professional tennis) gives me an insight to how it feels to be the player and to coach the player. I understand the pressures of competition as well as balancing academics and athletics.”
DeRienzo played tennis at the NCAA Division II level at Queens College. During her career with the Knights, DeRienzo played first singles and doubles, while garnering team MVP and All Conference from 1981-85. DeRienzo graduated from Queens as a double major in nutrition and food service management.
“My goal is to grow the tennis program at York by getting to know the student body to seek out future talented athletes. We will maximize what York has to offer to potential recruits in order to attract future student-athletes to the college.”
From 2010-17, DeRienzo was a consultant and buyer at the Port Washington Tennis Academy. DeRienzo coached ITF Circuit Professional Players and was a Division I scholarship athlete manager from 2006-19.
Since 1992, DeRienzo has served as the fund administrator for the Uniformed Firefighters Association & Uniformed Fire Officers Association Welfare Fund. From 1986-92, DeRienzo worked for the Department of Transportation-Parking Violations Bureau as the director of human resources.
Hailing from Bayside, DeRienzo resides in the Douglaston section of Queens, and is a proud parent to son, Alex, and daughter, Katie.
