Anastasia Bitis enters her fourth season as head women's basketball coach at York College in 2020-21.
In her first year at York, Bitis helped the Cardinals improve dramatically, earning six more wins than the previous season finishing 8-17 overall and 5-11 in the CUNYAC standings. The two-time York College Coach of the Year then went 5-20 overall and a mark of 4-12 in the conference in 2018-19. York concluded the 2018-19 season ranked second in the nation with 51 collective rebounds per game and 17th with 1,275 caroms. Bitis also developed the 2018-19 NCAA Statistical Champion for rebounds (403) and rebounds per game (16.1) in Mac-Dege Dessources.
Bitis came to the Cardinals after running a very successful program for four seasons at nearby Maspeth High School. Bitis was the coach of the boys team and led them to a 2015 PSAL B Division Championship, while also advancing to the finals of the New York State Federation Class B Championship. Under her guidance, Maspeth also won four straight Division titles from 2014-2017. In 2014, she was also named the PSAL Coach of the Year.
Bitis is also very familiar with the City University of New York, as she holds a bachelor’s degree in history and art from Hunter College and a master’s degree in physical education from Queens College. Bitis was also a two-year member of the Hunter College women’s basketball team and was part of a squad that advanced to the NCAA tournament on two occasions.
She is also a graduate of the 2018 NCAA Women Coaches Academy, class #45, that was held in Denver, Colorado. The NCAA Women Coaches Academy, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, is a 4-day educational training available to NCAA coaches of all experience levels, and is designed for women coaches who are ready to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success.
