Andre M. Titus, Jr.

Andre M. Titus, Jr. enters his 23nd season as York College head men's volleyball coach in 2022.  With over 30 years of coaching experience, Titus, Jr. has led the Cardinals to appearances in the CUNYAC Championship match in 2004, 2013 and 2014.  York garnered a berth in the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championships in 2004 and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in 2013.  The 2004 CUNAYC Coach of the Year advanced York to the CUNYAC Championship semifinals from 2009-2016, and in 2013, Titus, Jr. guided the Cardinals to a school-record 24 victories, shattering the previous school record of 17 wins. 

 

Prior to York , Titus Jr. served as an assistant coach at Cheyney University in 1979.  He also coached the NYC Aliens A/BB team from 1986-90, the NYC True Colours AA team from 1990-93 and the NYC Department of Correction (NYCDOC) Olympic Team from 1996-2000.  Titus, Jr. led the NYCDOC team to their first-ever medal at the 1997 Police Olympics.   In addition, he was York ’s first-ever softball coach in 2003.    

Titus, Jr. is also very involved with the U.S. Virgin Islands Volleyball Federation.  During the winter break, he assists training for youth boys and girls in preparation for the NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation).

 

In addition to his volleyball accolades, Titus, Jr. was also an accomplished track star.  He won the gold medal in the long jump (21’9.5) at the 1996 NY Master Track & Field Championships and was team MVP for York College in 1983. 

 

Titus, Jr. is a graduate of York College (’84) with degrees in both health education and physical education.  He was born in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and is currently employed at the NYC Department of Health, with a special concentration on HIV/ Aids Prevention.
