Elijah Trotman finalized his third season as York College assistant men’s basketball coach. A former player for Queensborough Community College from 2014-16, Trotman reunites with head coach Clarence Emengo in their quest to bring the Cardinals glory.

In a competitive first season, Trotman helped the team reach a third consecutive CUNYAC playoff appearance. Individually, Olawale Kila made a CUNYAC All-Star First-Team appearance, and freshman phenom Aidony Nivar claimed the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year under his watch. In fact, Nivar garnered a program-record seven CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Awards. The team's success helped them claim the 2023-24 York College Team of the Year Award.

Continuing on the rookie theme, Trotman oversaw freshman sensation Brandon Barrett claim four CUNYAC Rookie of the Week laurels, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, and an All-Star Second Team appearance during 2024-25.

York found success in the 2025-26 campaign, winning eight conference contests, the most since the 2021-22 season, and hosting a playoff game for the first time since the 2022-23 season. Freshman Jonte Wallace thrived, claiming six CUNYAC Rookie of the Week laurels and becoming the program's third consecutive CUNYAC Rookie of the Year. In addition, star newcomers Christopher Smith and Joshua Jackman both received CUNYAC Player of the Week distinctions and were named to the First Team and Second Team All-Conference, respectively.

At Queensborough, Trotman showed out in the 2015-16 season, where he played a career-best 25 games and averaged 12.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. After transferring to Hunter College, he helped the Hawks reach the CUNYAC Championship quarterfinals in 2017. Trotman then graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.

Outside of basketball, Trotman works as a social security contact representative at the Queens Card Center in Jamaica since 2021. From 2018-20, Trotman contributed to Macy’s as a service associate.
