JAMAICA, NY--- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer began its winning ways Friday afternoon, authoring a 9-0 victory in a non-conference home matchup against the Gallaudet University Bison (0-4). The nine-goal scoreline was the program's largest since its 9-0 win at Medgar Evers College in October 2014.
First-Half Breakdown
Gallaudet had the first opportunity of the contest, as Xavier De Leon poked his shot just wide at the 3:23 mark. 64 seconds later,
Derick Aboagye-Frimpong latched onto a through ball from
Javier Elizalde and calmly slotted it into the net. The Cardinals added a quickfire double over halfway into the half. Aboagye-Frimpong converted York's second with a long-range strike right at 28:00. A swift Cardinal move saw
Christopher Garcia extend the advantage to 3-0 at 28:44.
Second-Half Breakdown
York continued the scoring early in the second frame, as Garcia converted a pass from Aboagye-Frimpong in the 48th minute to make it 4-0.
Hammed Durojaye etched his name into the scoresheet for the first time as a Cardinal with a calm finish at 50:05. The Ghanaian native then added a second-half hat trick in the following 10:51, taking his total to five and lengthening the edge to 8-0. In fact, Aboagye-Frimpong's five-goal mark levels Elysee Vilsaint for the single-match record in program history. Vilsaint completed the feat at Yeshiva University in September 2008. Garcia added York's final tally with five minutes left on the clock, finalizing his first-career three-goal display.
Inside the Box Score
Beyond the goals, York maintained the advantage in shots (24-6), shots on target (16-2), and corner kicks (4-2). In goal,
Alexander Cruz (1-1) stopped two shots en route to his second-career victory and clean sheet. For the Bison, Donovan Schneck (0-2) recorded seven saves.
