York College continues non-conference play Monday (Apr. 13) with a home doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence

ALLENTOWN, PA--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball opened a four-game non-conference stretch Saturday and matched a season-high with four runs in game one, but faced a challenging road doubleheader against the Cedar Crest College Falcons (14-10), and were bested in both contests, 24-4 and 21-0, at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field.

Game 1: Cedar Crest 12, York 4 (5 Inn.)
  • York had the bats rolling in the top of the first. With one out, Simranjit Kaur singled and subsequently stole second base. She came home following an RBI single by Faith Howes (1-for-3, R, RBI). The Cardinals scored their second run when Jaylene Riley's (1-for-3, RBI) run-scoring single plated Howes.
  • The Falcons responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame, sending 22 batters up to bat against Kaur (L, 0-5; 4 IP, 23 H, 25 R (23 ER), 7 BB, 2 SO), scoring 16 runs off 12 hits, five walks, and two errors. The scoring spree felt like death by a thousand cuts, as all 12 knocks were singles, and no hitter recorded two RBI in a plate appearance.
  • After a scoreless top of the second, Kaur returned the favor in the home half of the stanza, retiring the Falcons in four batters for her only scoreless frame.
  • Cedar Crest tacked on six runs in the third inning by way of seven hits (2 XBH). Abby Adams (3-for-4, 3 R, 3 RBI) and Laney Ferraro (1-for-1, 2 BB, 3 R, 3 RBI) both collected run-scoring doubles, while Kylie Mastillo (4-for-5, 3 R, 4 RBI), Mackenzie Pickard, and Taylor Lawrence (3-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI) joined the action with RBI singles.
  • Chipping away, York scored two runs in the top of the fourth to trim the deficit to 18 (22-4). Three singles by Madison Plaza (1-for-2, R), Alyssa De La Rosa (1-for-2, R), and Madison Keir loaded the bases, and fielder's choices from Amaniya Aiken and Samantha Panameno brought in the runners.
  • The Falcons produced three more runs in the home half of the inning to extend the scoreline to 25-4. Mastillo's RBI-triple was the big hit in the frame.
  • The Cardinals got the leadoff hitter in the fifth after Jaymie Mateo's (2-for-3) second hit of the contest. However, Falcon starter Alexi Acevedo (W, 5-5; 8 H, 4 ER, 3 SO) negotiated a scoreless inning to seal the 25-4 result.
Game 2: Cedar Crest 21, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • Cedar Crest flexed early in the first inning, scoring nine runs on four hits while capitalizing on three costly York errors. Madacyn Snyder (3-for-3, 2 BB, 4 R, 3 RBI) singled home Natalie Hasert (3 R) after reaching on a fielding error to break the scoring ice. Four batters later, a passed ball brought Snyder home to double the Falcons' lead. Cedar Crest added runs on three consecutive batters before Snyder delivered a two-run single, extending the advantage to seven.
  • In the second inning, Howes (2-of-2, 2 2B) broke York into the hit column with a leadoff double, extending her hitting streak to five games.
  • The Falcons added five runs in the second inning, powered by a pair of RBI singles, a run-scoring double, and two hit-by-pitches that each brought a runner home.
  • York threatened in the third inning when Panameno reached on a two-out fielding error and stole second, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize, leaving her stranded to end the frame.
  • Over the next two innings, the Falcons scored four of their final five runs, taking advantage of bases-loaded walks off Howes (L, 0-1: 4 IP, 1 H 15 ER, 13 BB).
  • In the fourth inning, the Cardinals put runners on second and third with one out— Howes doubled, and an error allowed Riley to reach base, moving Howes to third before Riley stole second—Erin Gray (W, 9-5: 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 6 SO) induced back-to-back fly outs to escape the jam.
