www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball opened its home schedule Wednesday with a CUNYAC twinbill against the Baruch College Bearcats (9-11, 2-0 CUNYAC) at Padavan-Preller Fields, dropping both games, 30-0 and 26-0.
Game 1: Baruch 30, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- Baruch sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the first, scoring 11 runs off six hits, six walks, and four errors. Grace Osuch, Melanie Robles (4-for-4, 4 R, 6 RBI), and Jules Wychunas (4-for-5, 2 R, 5 RBI) all produced run-scoring hits in the frame off Simranjit Kaur (L, 0-2: 5 IP, 21 H, 23 ER, 15 BB).
- In the bottom of the frame, Kaur reached third base via a walk and two wild pitches, but was stranded after Melina Abreu grounded out.Â
- Megan Bell's (4-for-4, 5 R, 6 RBI, 2 BB) two-run triple extended the edge to 14-0 in the second inning.Â
- Putting together a spirited two-out rally, the Bearcats added six runs in the top of the third as four singles, three walks, one stolen base, and one error paced the way for the stretch.Â
- Madison Plaza walked and stole second for York in the home half of the third, but Kaur's punchout maintained the scoreline.
- Consecutive triples from Leilani Jimenez and Jordyn Schwartz quick-started another six-run frame for Baurch in the fourth.Â
- The Cardinals recorded their third stolen base of the contest as Abreu walked and swiped second in the bottom half of the inning, but York was unable to capitalize, leaving the runner stranded in scoring position.
- In the fifth inning, Baruch outpaced York 4-0 to settle the final.
- To supplement their output, the Bearcats generated 21 hits, eight extra-base knocks, 15 walks, and six stolen bases.Â
- On the pitching side, Jimenez (W, 5-6; 3 IP, 3 BB, 6 SO) and Ava Lavery (2 IP, B, SO) combined for the no-hit shutout.Â
Game 2: Baruch 26, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- Baruch continued its first-inning dominance, plating 13 runs after sending 16 batters to the dish. Four of the seven Bearcat hits in the frame went for extra bases, including a pair of triples by Wychunas (3-for-3, 3 R, 6 RBI), a three-base hit by Jimenez (3-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI), and a three-run dinger from Grace Osuch (3-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI). In addition to the hits, Baruch walked twice and took advantage of four Cardinal miscues.Â
- In the bottom of the frame, Kaur walked and stole second, but Bearcat starter Reina Castro-Johnson (W, 4-2; 5 IP, 4 BB, 8 SO) left her stranded to keep York off the scoreboard.Â
- A three-run home run by Wychunas spearheaded a six-run top of the second for the Bearcats to extend the lead.Â
- The scoring continued in the third stanza, as a two-run double from Mina Barriga (3-for-4, 4 R, 3 RBI) facilitated four more runs crossing the plate.Â
- Two walks and three singles by Baruch at the top of the fourth frame closed out the scoring.
- Cardinal starting pitcher Melina Abreu (L, 0-2; 21 H, 22 ER, 7 BB) notched her first shutout inning in the fifth, inducing a groundout and two lineouts.Â
- Castro-Johnson completed her no-hit shutout in the bottom of the frame, prompting one groundout, a strikeout, and a caught stealing.Â
