@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball rallies to five-set win over Yeshiva, earns first victory

York College returns to home court Tuesday (Feb. 10) for its CUNYAC opener against Baruch College

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball closed out a two-match road trip Thursday by earning its first win of the season, completing a five-set comeback for a 3–2 (25–21, 17–25, 24–26, 25–22, 15–13) non-conference road victory over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0–2) inside Max Stern Athletic Center.

First Set Breakdown 
  • Brian Kim came out of the gates hot for the Cardinals, smacking down four early kills to give York a 12-6 edge.
  • The Cardinals continued their strong play, as a 7-3 spurt extended their advantage to double digits (19-9). 
  • Yeshiva stormed back, as an 11-2 blitz trimmed the deficit to one (21-20). 
  • Maintaining composure, kills from Keron Antoine and Alexis Ramirez closed out a 25-21 scoreline. 
Second Set Breakdown 
  • George Molina's ace capped off a 7-4 start for York 
  • The Maccabees responded with a 7-3 run to take an 11-10 lead. 
  • A pair of aces by Peter Osen pushed the score to 14-12. 
  • Smackdowns from Ramirez and Kim knotted the score at 15. 
  • Yeshiva claimed the following eight points to pull away, ultimately winning 25-17.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • Trailing 5-2, a trio of kills by Kim and two aces by Molina sparked a 5-0 burst for York to go up 7-5.
  • Level at 10, another Cardinal 5-0 stretch gave them their highest margin of the frame (15-10). 
  • The Maccabees battled back with a 10-3 spurt, as Jarrett Lazarus totaled consecutive kills to cap off the rally (20-18).
  • York did not die down, as a pair of kills from Ramirez rounded off a 6-2 run, giving the squad two set points (24-22).
  • The elusive point never transpired, as Yeshiva collected the following four points to seal a 26-24 result.
Fourth Set Breakdown 
  • Momentum continued for the Maccabees, with Mateusz Karpow's ace opening up a 9-4 advantage.
  • Alex Kirievsky's kill maintained a five-point margin (12-7). 
  • The Cardinals steadily found their way back, with Enmanuek Guzman Urena's ace finalizing a 9-3 charge to lead by one (16-15).
  • A further 5-3 scoring streak extended the edge to three (21-18). 
  • York never let the margin dip below two, triumphing 25-22.
Fifth Set Breakdown 
  • Yeshiva took eight of the first 10 points.
  • The Cardinals immediately battled back, as two Kim kills and a pair of aces by Molina spearheaded a 7-1 stretch to level the score at nine. 
  • After losing the next two points, York secured three unanswered points to lead 12-11. 
  • Deadlocked at 13, a Molin kill followed by a Maccabee attack error secured a 15-13 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Ramirez produced a season-best 19 kills and patrolled the defense with a career-high 24 digs to register his third-career double-double.
  • Kim continued his impressive campaign with career-highs in kills (18) and digs (19). 
  • Molina contributed in all facets with two kills, a career-best seven points, five aces, and 12 digs.
  • Antoine smacked down a career-high four kills and added a solo block.
  • Jesus Gomez orchestrated the offense with a match-leading 38 assists (career high) to go along with two kills, two aces, and eight digs.
For Yeshiva
  • Karpow was the high man for the Maccabees, recording 16 kills, five aces, and 12 digs.
  • Complementing the attack, Lazarus, Kirievsky, and Sean Felderman all had three kills. Felderman distributed 18 assists as well. 
  • On the defensive side, Lazarus (10), Felderman (11), and Rubin Yoni (18) combined for 39 digs.
Inside the Box Score
York generated a season-high 46 kills on 163 total attacks (.080 percentage). The Maccabees recorded 28 kills and 141 total attacks for a .035 rate. The Cardinals also had the edge in points (61-44), assists (42-24), and digs (78-68), while both squads each served 12 aces.
