www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball showed continued progress throughout Tuesday's CUNYAC opening matchup, but were unable to keep pace with the Baruch College Bearcats (1-6, 1-0 CUNYAC), falling 3-0 (25-7,25-12, 25-15) inside York College Gymnasium.
First Set Breakdown
- Baruch claimed the first eight points on the serve of Valentin Rodriguez.
- York got on the board with a kill from Alexis Ramirez.
- The Bearcats steadily expanded their edge, with two kills from Peter Gavroff sealing a 25-7 scoreline.
Second Set Breakdown
- The Cardinals managed a 3-2 lead after five points.
- Evan Kang's ace capped off a 5-1 stretch for Baruch, taking the margin to three points (7-4).
- A subsequent 6-0 run followed, with Gavroff's smackdown pushing the advantage to eight (13-5).
- Ahead 15-8, the Bearcats put the stanza out of reach with another 6-0 burst (21-8), this time culminating with a kill from Aaron Clarke.
- York trimmed the deficit to 10 (21-11) before Baruch eventually closed out a 25-12 result.
Third Set Breakdown
- Both squads split the opening 10 points (5-5).
- Alexis Ramirez tallied three kills early on to keep the Cardinals close (10-8).
- A trio of aces by Benjamin Nirenstein extended the advantage to six (14-8).
- Further smackdowns by Brian Kim and Keron Antoine helped York keep pace (18-12).
- Ismael Sanogo's kill clinched the victory at 25-15.
Leading the Cardinals
- Ramirez paced the team with seven kills and 27 total attacks. He also chipped in with three digs.
- Kim and Antoine each produced one kill.
- Jesus Gomez contributed team-highs in assists (7) and digs (4).
For Baruch
- Nirenstein powered home a match-high 10 kills and served three aces.
- Gavroff generated eight kills and led the contest with eight digs.
- Kang and Clarke each recorded six kills.
- Rodriguez (16) and Ari Osmanaj (19) combined for 35 assists. Rodriguez also served a match-leading four aces.
Inside the Box Score
York accumulated nine kills on 51 attacks and hit at a -.118 rate. Baruch spiked down 41 kills on 61 attacks for a .557 percentage. The Bearcats also recorded more aces (11-0), assists (37-8), digs (24-11), and total blocks (7-0).
