www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball opened a four-match road swing Thursday evening, dropping a non-conference decision to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (1-3) by the final count of 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) inside Saint Joseph Hall.
First Set Breakdown
- York claimed the first two points of the match.
- Three aces from Enock Joachim helped the Eagles win the following four points.
- Leading 5-4, Saint Elizabeth asserted its will, utilizing a 10-1 burst to go up double-digits (15-5).
- Alexis Ramirez's kill trimmed the deficit to eight (16-8) before the Eagles won the next five points to essentially put the set away (21-8).
- Battling back, the Cardinals went on an 8-2 stretch to make it a seven-point scoreline (23-16), but a pair of subsequent attack errors closed out a 25-16 result.
Second Set Breakdown
- Both squads split the opening 12 points.
- Saint Elizabeth once again started to pull away, as an 11-2 blitz gave the squad a 17-8 advantage.
- Training 19-10, York showed signs of life, with Brian Kim's ace capping off a 7-2 stretch to make it a 21-17 contest.
- A pair of kills by Ramirez trimmed the margin to two (23-21).
- The comeback attempt ultimately fell short, as the Eagles collected the next two points to win 25-21.
Third Set Breakdown
- Kills by George Molina, Keron Antoine, and Jesus Gomez sparked the Cardinals' 8-5 beginning.
- The lead did not last long, as Saint Elizabeth surged ahead 15-11 by means of an extended 10-3 run.
- York managed to take three of the next four points to make it a two-point scoreline (16-14).
- That was the closest the Cardinals came the rest of the stanza, as the Eagles steadily expanded their advantage until clinching the match at 25-19.
Leading the Cardinals
- Ramirez tallied a team-best five kills to go along with five digs and one ace.
- Gomez contributed across the stat sheet, recording six digs, a career-best three aces, and a team-high six assists.
- Molina and Kim both spiked down three kills. Kim scooped up a team-leading seven digs.
- Enmanuel Guzman Urena provided six digs, two aces, and a career-best four assists.
For Saint Elizabeth
- Joachim powered home a match-leading 12 kills and also provided three aces and six digs.
- Carlos Saldana accumulated eight points (four kills, two aces, two solo blocks).
- Ih'Jamir Williams chipped in with six kills.
- Randel Romero controlled the attack with 20 assists, and Jameel Wright starred defensively with 15 digs.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals produced 78 total attacks and hit at a -.154 rate. In comparison, Saint Elizabeth swung 79 times with a .215 percentage. Additionally, the Eagles had the advantage in kills (31-13), solo blocks (5-1), assists (26-11), and digs (34-3), while both sides each served eight aces.
