York College continues CUNYAC play Friday (Jan. 9) with a road matchup against Hunter College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball battled through the first half Wednesday at home against the City College of New York Beavers (3-8, 1-2 CUNYAC), but fell short in a 55-36 CUNYAC decision inside York College Gymnasium. 

How it Happened
  • Both teams opened the contest with a slow start, combining for seven missed shots to begin play, before CCNY broke the scoring ice when Joscelyn Ramos converted a layup at the 7:55 mark.
  • York quickly responded, as Amaniya Aiken knocked down a jumper just nine seconds later to level the score.
  • Aiken played a key role in York's early offense, accounting for the Cardinals' first six points.
  • She followed her jumper with a pair of free throws before setting up Arta Gjeloshi for a basket with 3:21 remaining in the quarter, cutting CCNY's lead to one at 7-6
  • Trailing 14-8, Imani Gibson sparked an 8-2 Cardinal run with a layup at the 5:41 mark.
  • Beautifull Earth followed with consecutive layups before Arta Gjeloshi connected on a pair of free throws to knot the game at 16 with 1:34 remaining in the half.
  • York controlled the boards in the second period but struggled to capitalize, scoring just four second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds. CCNY closed the half on a 7-2 run over the final 1:15 to take a 23–18 advantage into the break.
  • CCNY capitalized on 19 Cardinal turnovers in the third quarter, turning them into 28 points while pulling away with a decisive 20–2 scoring advantage.
  • Aiken drailed down a jumper at the 8:35 mark and later capped a 6–0 spurt with a pair of free throws to make it a 45-26 contest at 7:23.
  • She also accounted for four more points to close out a 6-2 run with 3:40 remaining.
  • From there, both teams played even the rest of the way as CCNY secured the 19-point victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Aiken and Gjeloshi paced York with 12 points apiece. Aiken also pulled down 13 rebounds while adding three steals and three assists.
  • Gjeloshi contributed eight rebounds and three steals.
  • Earth added eight points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass, and recorded a team-high seven steals.
  • Tyla Hooks grabbed 10 rebounds, while Chamiya Foy finished with nine boards—seven offensive—along with three blocks and three steals.
  • Ceana Adams rounded out the effort by swatting a career-high four shots.
For CCNY
  • Ashley Colon led all scorers with 19 points and added four steals.
  • Blessings Joseph-Pascall followed with 13 points (5-of-10 FG) and recorded a game-high eight steals, while Joscelyn Ramos chipped in 10 points and four steals.
  • Ashley Subervi anchored the glass with a game-high 14 rebounds and added six steals.
Inside the Box Score 
York hit on 20.9 percent (14-of-67) from the field and 40 percent (8-of-20) from the free-throw line. By comparison, CCNY shot 27.4 percent (20-of-73) from the floor, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from 3-point range and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the stripe. The Cardinals held the advantage in blocks (8–3) and won the boards battle (38–33), including a season-high 25 offensive rebounds. CCNY, however, outplayed York in points in the paint (30–20) and steals (28–16), while also leading in assists (17–13). The Beavers capitalized on York's 47 turnovers, converting them into 31 points.
