Christopher Smith was acknowledged Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) as a Men's Basketball Divisions II/III Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for games played Jan. 19-25. Smith has now claimed three MBWA weekly distinctions this campaign, adding onto his CUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award he collected yesterday (

Pacing the Cardinals to a 2-0 week, Smith put up 22.5 points, 5.5 steals, and 4.5 rebounds per game on 56.7 percent (17-of-30) shooting. Defeating Brooklyn College 81-74, he scored an efficient 22 points (8-of-10 FG, 6-of-7 FT), including nine points in the final five minutes, and totaled a season-high six steals. In a 96-94 overtime triumph at John Jay College (Jan. 24), the speedy guard netted 23 points (9-of-20 FG) to go along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Appearing in all 15 contests, Smith is leading the team with 14.4 points and 2.7 steals per game to go along with his 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Focusing on conference matchups, he has upped his scoring average to 17.5 points per game while maintaining high-quality defense (3.25 steals p/game). In comparison to other CUNYAC players, on a per-game basis, the Newburgh, New York, native ranks fourth in scoring, second in steals, 11th in rebounding, and 14th in assists.
