www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball started strong with early energy on Saturday but were unable to match the John Jay College Bloodhounds (6-13, 4-4 CUNYAC), dropping a 74-36 CUNYAC road decision from The Doghouse.
How it Happened
- Taking good shots and playing solid defense, the Cardinals started the first quarter on a 13-8 spurt.
- Amaniya Aiken scored seven points and Chamiya Foy's three-point play at 3:17 capped off the strong start.
- The Bloodhounds responded quickly, orchestrating a 12-0 run to lead 20-13 heading into the second frame.
- John Jay's scoring spree continued into the second quarter, as Essence Wilson's three-point basket with 7:07 remaining in the half extended the advantage to 17 (30-13).
- Attempting to mount a comeback, York embarked on an 11-4 charge spanning 4:59 of action to trim the deficit to 10 (34-24).
- Aiken once again scored seven points during the rally to put her first-half total at 14.
- Michaela Lattimore's layup for the Bloodhounds with 21 seconds left finalized a 37-24 half.
- Wasting no time, John Jay pushed its edge to 20-points (46-26) following Lattimore's jumper 2:07 into the period.
- Ceana Adams' basket at 6:15 made it a 17-point margin (47-30), but that was the closest the Cardinals got the rest of the game.
- The Bloodhounds outpaced York 27-6 over the final 16 minutes to seal the 74-36 outcome.
Leading the Cardinals
- Aiken paced the squad with her fifth double-double of the campaign, scoring a game-high 22 points and hauling in 13 rebounds (nine offensive) to go along with seven steals and York's lone block of the afternoon.
- Foy contributed in many phases with seven points, eight rebounds, and five steals.
- Tyla Hooks gathered 10 rebounds and gained one steal.
- Beautifull Earth led the team with two assists and nabbed two steals.
For John Jay
- Miah Crockett netted a team-best 16 points (5-of-10 FG, 2-of-4 3FG) and added six rebounds and two steals.
- Bryan Bascones netted an efficient 14 points (6-of-12 FG, 2-of-2 FT).
- Lattimore recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
- Alexis Jones rounded out the double-digit scorers with a 10-point (5-of-7 FG) display to go along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Inside the Box Score
York shot 22.9 percent (16-of-70) from the floor, drained two three-pointers and sank a pair of free throws. The Bloodhounds connected on 33.8 percent (26-of-77) of its shots (26-of-77), swished home four triples, and shot 64.3 percent 18-of-28) from the charity stripe. In addition, John Jay held advantages in the rebound (69-43), assist (19-4), steal (20-15), and block (3-1) categories.
