Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball rallies past Brooklyn for CUNYAC triumph

York College travels Saturday (Jan. 24) for a CUNYAC battle at John Jay College

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball held a double-digit lead in the first half and weathered a Brooklyn College Bulldogs (6-11, 5-2 CUNYAC) rally to earn an 81-74 CUNYAC win Wednesday evening inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • York jumped out to an early lead as Joshua Jackman connected on a three-pointer 1:13 into the contest.
  • Jonte Wallace caught fire early, scoring 15 of the Cardinals' first 20 points to help York build a commanding 20–6 advantage at the 12:45 mark.
  • Brooklyn answered with 21 of the game's next 31 points, sparked by Joe Charles and D'Aze Hunter, who combined for 16 points during the surge to pull the Bulldogs within three at 30–27 with 4:34 remaining.
  • York closed the period strong, outscoring Brooklyn 10–3 over the final 4:16 to carry a 40–31 lead into intermission.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm early in the second half, combining to shoot just 2-of-12 from the floor.
  • Brooklyn capitalized on the slow start by scoring 17 of the first 21 points of the frame, using the surge to rally and take a 48–44 lead at the 12:51 mark.
  • York responded by knotting the game at 50 following a brief 6–2 run highlighted by a pair of Wallace layups.
  • Brooklyn answered with a balanced 9–3 rally, featuring four different scorers, to regain momentum and extend its advantage to 59–53 with 8:31 remaining.
  • Trailing 63–55 with 7:11 to play, the Cardinals mounted another push as Christopher Smith scored four points during a 6–0 York run to pull within two. York continued its surge, as Smith's driving layup at the 4:46 mark added to an extended 13–1 run and gave the Cardinals a 68-64 lead.
  • Charles drained a three-pointer at the 3:53 mark to pull Brooklyn within one, but York closed the game by outscoring the Bulldogs by six over the final 3:16 to seal the victory.
