York College remains at home Wednesday (Jan. 21) in a CUNYAC showdown with Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball kept it close Friday evening until the Baruch College Bearcats (7-10, 4-2 CUNYAC) owned the final 20 minutes to capture a 63-48 CUNYAC win inside York College Gymnasium. 
How it Happened
  • Jonte Wallace sparked York with back-to-back layups to give the Cardinals an early 4-0 lead.
  • Baruch responded with eight of the next 10 points to take an 8-6 advantage with 14:16 remaining.
  • The game remained tight at 10-all before Wallace and Bryce Haynes each hit three-pointers, fueling an 8-2 York run.
  • York led by as many as six at 18-12, but the Bearcats closed the half with a 14-5 spurt over the final 6:23, highlighted by seven points from Nicholas Lam, to take a 26-23 lead into the break.
  • Both teams struggled to find a consistent rhythm in the opening 20 minutes, and each scored 16 points in the paint.
  • Down 28-25, layups by Wallace and Bryan Godette gave York a one-point lead with 16:22 remaining in the second half.
  • Baruch responded with an 18-1 run to seize control, building a 46-30 advantage with 9:55 left as York went cold, missing seven consecutive field-goal attempts.
  • York fought back with a balanced attack, featuring four scorers who helped the Cardinals cut the deficit to five at 48-43 with 6:56 showing on the clock.
  • During that stretch, York hit 5-of-6 shots from the floor while limiting Baruch to just two attempts.
  • Baruch countered with a timely 9-1 attack as Jack Gordon sparked the Bearcats with five points during the run to go up 54-44 at the 4:06 mark.
  • The Cardinals never mounted a comeback, as Baruch closed out a 63-48 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Wallace scored a team-best 18 points (8-of-16 FG) to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.
  • Smith added 10 points and two steals. Joshua Jackman (7) and Godette (6) helped the effort on the glass with a combined 13 rebounds.
  • Elie Mondelus paced the squad with three steals, and Gozie Chinegwundoh swatted away three shots.
For Baruch
  • Jack Gordon netted a team-high 18 points (3-of-9 3FG, 7-of-10 FT).
  • Leyi Adebayo chipped in with 14 points, three assists, and two steals.
  • Peter Douvres recorded a double-double with 10 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-6 3FG) and 11 rebounds.
  • Trevor Coppin secured a game-leading 15 rebounds. . 
Inside the Box Score
York shot 28.4 percent (19-of-67) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the charity stripe. Baruch connected on 33.9 percent (21-of-62) of its field goals, canned seven triples, and shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe. In addition, the Bearcats had a large advantage in rebounds (58-37) and distributed 12 assists to York's 11. Utilizing their length and speed, the Cardinals recorded more steals (6-2) and blocks (11-9).
