Aboagye-Frimpong records epic brace against Sarah Lawrence as @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer continues unbeaten stretch

York College returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 24) with a road matchup at University of Valley Forge

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer finalized a three-match home slate with a non-conference thriller against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (3-2-2). After the Gryphons held the lead for the first 32 minutes of the second frame, two quick goals from York College sparked a frantic finish at the York College Outdoor Athletic Complex, ultimately resulting in a hard-fought 2-2 draw.  With the result, the Cardinals extended their unbeaten streak to two matches.

First-Half Breakdown
Threatening in the fifth minute, York goalkeeper George Molina (0-2-2) parried away Aidan Roney's point-blank shot to keep it scoreless. Jason Valeriano came close for the Cardinals at the 16:38 mark following a smooth passage of play, but his effort was caught by Gryphon netminder Joseph Vaca. Vaca came in clutch again for Sarah Lawrence 25 minutes in, pushing Derick Aboagye-Frimpong's close-range effort away for a corner. Henry Seas broke the deadlock for the Gryphons with 10:41 remaining in the stanza, curling one past Molina from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Second-Half Breakdown
A cagey second half, no team produced any moment of magic until Aboagye-Frimpong stepped up at the 77:35 mark, cannoning a thunderbolt home off the crossbar to level the scoring. Seizing momentum, Aboagye-Frimpong completed his brace in the 85th minute, striking one past substitute goalkeeper Jacob Freed (0-0-1) to give York a 2-1 advantage. Andres Castro and Ernest Bawilliam were instrumental in the buildup to the goal. Attempting to hold onto the victory, Connor Saul equalized for Sarah Lawrence in what was essentially the final kick of the contest.

Inside the Box Score
A back-and-forth affair, the Gryphons had an edge in shots (16-15) and shots on target (11-6), while York won more corner kicks (9-6). Individually, Aboagye-Frimpong produced six shots and a season-best three attempts on goal. In net, Molina notched a season-high nine saves, while Vaca and Freed combined for four stops.
