@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer Responds in Second Half with Home Opening Effort Against Cedar Crest

York College hits the road Wednesday (Sept. 17) for a non-conference bout against Purchase College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer opened its 2025 home slate Saturday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against the Cedar Crest College Falcons (1-4), finding the back of the net in the second half before falling in a 6-1 decision at the York College Outdoor Athletic Complex.

First-Half Breakdown 
Cedar Crest struck in the fourth minute when Lizzy DeNunzio finished a pass from Laila Stevenson. The Falcons challenged York goalkeeper Amaniya Aiken (0-2) with four shots over the next 20+minutes, before Stevenson doubled the advantage at 34:05. Aiken recorded three additional saves prior to halftime, keeping the deficit at 2-0. 

Second-Half Breakdown 
Two Falcon shots struck the woodwork in the opening 5:32 of the frame. Stevenson added another goal to her stat line in the 58th minute to make it 3-0. Right from kick off, York freshman Stephanie Gonzalez produced a wondergoal, dribbling past multiple Cedar Crest players and whizzing a right-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box over netminder Bella Bozen (1-4). DeNunzio responded with her second goal of the contest at the 61:18 mark to push the Falcon edge to 4-1. Lauren Davis added a fifth goal, and Stevenson completed her hat-trick with 16:55 remaining to close out a 6-1 victory for Cedar Crest. 

Inside the Box Score
Beyond the final score, the Falcons recorded more shots (33-3), shots on target (18-2), and corner kicks (14-2) than York. For the Cardinals, Gonzalez generated all three attempts on goal. In net, Aiken pushed away 12 shots, while Bozen and Stephanie Macaluso provided security for Cedar Crest.
