@yorkcardinals Women's Soccer Shows Resilience Against Purchase as Aiken Breaks Program Record with 24 Saves

York College returns to home grounds Saturday (Sept. 20) against University of Valley Forge

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer faced off against the Purchase College Panthers (2-2-0) in a non-conference matchup on the road Wednesday evening at Purchase College Field. The Cardinals battled throughout, but were ultimately bested 4-0.

Despite the loss, goalkeeper Amaniya Aiken (0-3-0) set a new program record with 24 saves in the contest. Making just her third career appearance in goal for the Cardinals, Aiken's 24 stops broke the previous single-game record of 23 saves, which was set twice by Sarah Hilaire (vs. New Jersey City University on 10/18/2016 and against CCNY on 9/27/2014). With 53 saves over just three games, Aiken has quickly established herself as a formidable last line of defense and a key defensive force for the Cardinals.
 

First-Half Breakdown 
Purchase's Lindita Selmani netted the first goal of the contest at the 10:09 mark. Tough Cardinal defense and resilient goalkeeping from Aiken held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the stanza. Aiken repelled an impressive 13 Purchase attempts during the half. 

Second-Half Breakdown 
Selmani set up Lilah Hall just under three minutes after the restart to double the score. Dominating the offensive play, Hall and Selmani notched a quickfire double-salvo to seal a 4-0 scoreline in the 70th minute. 11 of Aiken's record-breaking shot-stopping total came in the frame.

Inside the Box Score
Purchase generated 59 shots and 28 attempts on goal. Stephanie Gonzalez recorded all three of York's shots, including two attempts on goal against Purchase's Carolyn Hough (2-2-0).
