@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer shows grit in non-conference clash with Maritime

York College remains on home field Monday (Sept. 15) in a non-conference matchup against Medgar Evers College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer returned to home turf Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference battle against the undefeated Maritime College Privateers (3-0-0), holding their own through a competitive first half before ultimately falling 3-0 from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex.

First-Half Breakdown
Georgios Tsatalios nearly opened the scoring for Maritime in the fifth minute, rattling the crossbar with a strike from the edge of the 18-yard box. The Privateers wouldn't register another serious chance until the 27th minute, when Chris Vazquez buried a well-placed cross from George Kanellopoulos to give Maritime a 1-0 lead.  York responded with urgency, dominating the final nine minutes of the half with seven shots and three corner kicks. Despite the offensive pressure, most attempts were blocked before reaching the target. Privateer goalkeeper Augusto Lebron (3-0-0) preserved the lead with a sprawling save on Jason Valeriano's side-footed effort just six seconds before the break.

Second-Half Breakdown
Maritime came out of the intermission as the more aggressive side, recording four shots in the first 10:42 of the second half—including a ferocious crossbar strike from Carson Sadler at the 51:08 mark. Just over six minutes later, Jude Callan extended the Privateers' lead to 2-0. Sadler then capped the scoreline with a 71st-minute penalty, sealing the 3-0 final.

Maritime had the edge in shots (25-14), shots on target (11-4), and corners (9-4). In goal, George Molina (0-2-0) recorded eight saves, while Lebron and Louis Luparello combined for the Privateers' shutout.
