FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College's Abubakar Khamis was recognized Friday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) as a member of the 2025 Men's Tennis Sportsmanship Team. This honor is Khamis' second straight CUNYAC men's tennis laurel, as he collected the Sportsmanship Award in the 2024 campaign. 

"Abubakar is the captain of our team with good reason! He is dedicated, a great leader, and a fantastic man. He is always there for the team on and off the court, helping team mates with school work and problems. Abubakar is incredibly respectful with opponent players, just playing his tennis which he learned over the past three years." - York College head coach Branislav Grujic

On the court, the Brooklyn native competed in 11 singles and doubles matchups. Mainly appearing on the No. 2 doubles circuit, he partnered with Altenor Molien to triumph over John Jay College's Daniel Rosa and Vladimir Ruzanov (8-7 (7-3)) in late April. Mainly playing on the No. 3 singles level, Khamis made one appearance on the No. 1 court, taking Lehman College's Richie Magaribi to a second-set tiebreaker.
