@yorkcardinals Men's Volleyball celebrates Senior Day against Brooklyn

York College travels Saturday (Mar. 29) for a non-conference tri-match against Neumann College and University of Valley Forge

JAMAICA, NY-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball closed out their home slate Thursday evening against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (12-13, 8-4 CUNYAC), falling in a competitive three sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) of CUNYAC action inside York College Gymnasium.

Prior to opening serve, Ahmed Algendy (2023-25), David Heyliger, Jr. (2020, 2022, 2024-25), and Stanley Sanchez (2022-25) were honored for their dedication to York Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

First Set Breakdown
  • An ace from Stefan Simon got the Bulldogs off to a 7-3 start.
  • David Lema's ace pushed Brooklyn's edge to six (13-7).
  • York trimmed its deficit to three (13-10) off kill by Ian McIntosh.
  • A kill by Jason Lin capped off a 6-2 Bulldog spurt to make it 19-12.
  • Armand Kaloshi closed out a 25-16 scoreline with a kill for Brooklyn.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Both squads split the opening 10 points.
  • Brooklyn went on a 6-1 burst to lead 11-6.
  • A smackdown from Sebastian Gomez sliced the deficit to four (12-8), the closest York got the rest of the way.
  • Four Cardinal attack errors extended the Bulldogs' advantage to eight (16-8).
  • Another Gomez kill got the margin to six (20-14) before Brooklyn steadily pulled away with a 25-16 decision.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Yinuo Zhang nailed down a kill to give Brooklyn a 10-5 edge.
  • Alexis Ramirez's ace pulled York within three (12-9).
  • Both squads traded the next 10 points, with Brooklyn holding onto a three-point advantage (17-14).
  • Trailing 21-15, a pair of Gomez spikes once again chopped the Cardinals' deficit to three (21-18).
  • Two kills from Aaron Siu clinched a 25-19 result.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Gomez had a team-leading 10 kills and 31 attacks.
  • Heyliger, Jr. added five kills and two blocks. 
  • Ramirez totaled three kills.
  • McIntosh chipped in with two block assists and a team-best five digs.
  • Sanchez distributed 16 assists and leveled McIntosh's five-dig output.
For Brooklyn
  • Siu smacked down a match-high 12 kills (.320 percentage) and had a team-leading two aces.
  • Lin produced six kills.
  • Simon tallied four kills, two block assists, and tied Siu's mark of two aces.
  • Dion Csikortos scooped up a match-best 10 digs and Lema orchestrated the Bulldog offense with 28 assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals generated 22 kills on 84 attacks (-.048 percentage), while Brooklyn manufactured 30 kills at a .222 clip. Additionally, the Bulldogs owned the assist (30-19), ace (7-2), block (8-5), and dig (31-24) categories.
